Inspiration Comes in the Mail
Where do you get your inspiration? From magazines? From nature? From other surroundings? I have been known to carry a small sketch pad around in my car and in my purse. When something catches my eye, from a unique window to unusual flowers, I pull out the pad and draw. I use these drawings later in creating new blocks or appliques for my quilts.
Today, I got another kind of inspiration that I love! Books of antique quilts from various states.

I love quilts from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. You would be surprised what ideas you can get. Color combinations, unusual blocks that were common 100 or 200 years ago, but maybe not used so much today or interesting appliques. My favorite thing to do is to take traditional old block patterns and work them into newer designs using the great reproduction patterns on the market today.
Here is a pattern of mine where I did this very thing. My Scrappy Gardens table toppers combines traditional blocks and with updated floral applique for a fun new look.

So, tell me where you get your inspiration! I would like to hear from you.
Now, I must return to the scrappy stars that are waiting for me on the ironing board. I'm excited! Almost done with a really fun design. I sure hope it looks as good on my design wall as it did on the computer and sketch pad.
Happy Quilting!
